The
National Soccer Hall of Fame has announced the schedule for the
6th Annual High School Hall of Fame Cup and for the first time
the competition will be held over two weekends September 10 & 11
and September 17 & 18. The tournament which is for both boys’ and girls’ high school varsity teams,
is a joint venture of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and Oneonta
High School and will feature 56 high profile teams.
“We are very excited with the results of our decision to
expand the tournament to two weekends,” Tournament Director
David Hammons said.
“We expected to gain a few teams, but we have grown the event by
35% this year, and, from the response I have received so far, we
expect to have a full 2-weekend tournament of 64 teams in 2006.”

In addition to the tradition of strong Section IV teams, the
2005 tournament will include nationally recognized programs from
Strongsville, Ohio and Kearny High School from New Jersey. In
addition several top class New York State programs are on the
schedule including Section II’s Niskayuna High School, McQuaid
Jesuit of Rochester, and defending NYSPHSAA Class D State
Champion Chazy Central School.
“The Hall of Fame is very proud of our ability to bring top
class New York State soccer to Oneonta at the beginning and end
of each season,” Director of Operations
Kathryn Dailey said. “
We bookend the season with the Hall of Fame Cup and the New York
State Public High School Athletic Association Boys’
Championships. We are looking forward to the 2005 edition and
the many years to follow.”
About the High School Hall of
Fame Cup
The High School Hall of Fame Cup is an annual high school soccer
tournament held in September. The purpose of this tournament is
to give local high school teams an opportunity to compete
against high profile teams from outside Section IV and a chance
to play on our award winning fields. The High School Hall of
Fame Cup is the high school version of the Mayor's Cup, the
longest running NCAA Division I major college soccer tournament
in the United States.

About the National Soccer Hall
of Fame and Museum
Located in
Oneonta, NY, the National Soccer Hall of Fame opened a 30,000
square foot, state-of-the-art museum in 1999. The Hall of Fame
tells the story of soccer in
America through artifacts, photographs, and video clips. The new
Hall features an extensive interactive, youth oriented Kicks
Zone where visitors have fun kicking,
heading and playing computer trivia stations and video
soccer games. The VideoWall portrays some of the greatest
moments and the greatest goals in history as well as live soccer
action with World Cup, MLS, and U.S. Soccer matches. Unique and
rare artifacts on exhibit range from the world’s oldest soccer
ball to the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy won by the USA in
1999,
Pelé's and Mia Hamm’s uniforms, Kristine Lilly’s golden
shoes, NASL championship rings, the original MLS championship
trophy, MLS gallery - it’s all at the National Soccer Hall of
Fame. In addition to the interactive Museum, the National Soccer
Hall of Fame complex boasts the
Kicks
Zone Store,
a research library, four world-class soccer fields and
office/meeting facilities. The Hall plans to add a stadium, an
indoor soccer arena and housing facilities in the future.
The mission of
the National Soccer Hall of Fame is to celebrate the history,
honor the heroes, inspire the youth and preserve the legacy of
soccer in the United States.
The National
Soccer Hall of Fame is open every day of the year, except
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Admission is $9.00 for
adults, $8.00 for students, $6.50 for children 6 or older and
senior citizens. Children 5 and under are free.
