Robert Gormley


Bob began his career with the McKinlay Soccer Club of Philadelphia and as a youth also played for the famous Lighthouse Boys Club in the North Philadelphia League.

Asked to join the Philadelphia German-Americans, he played for the reserve team for three years with only an occasional first team game. In 1936 he signed with the Kensington Blue Bells of the Eastern Pennsylvania League and his lethal shot and performance so impressed the German-Americans that he was back with them the following year. In his first full year in the American Soccer league he scored ten goals from his left wing position and went on to play for the German-Americans for 17 years, retiring in 1954. Captain for 12 of his 17 seasons with the team. Represented the United States against Israel in 1948 and Haiti in 1954.
