Nick grew up in the Pittsburgh area where he was a member of national junior champions Avella Juniors in 1939.

Played for Morgan S.C. when they won the U.S. Open Cup in 1949 and Harmarville in 1952 and 1953. Won the National Amateur Cup in 1943 with Morgan Strasser of Pittsburgh, and played for four other Pittsburgh-area finalists in the cup: Morgan USCO (1942), Morgan Strasser (1944), and Hamarville S.C. in 1950 and 1951. Played in the North American Professional Soccer League in 1946 and 1947 for Pittsburgh Indians and Chicago Vikings. His teams won championships in the Keystone Senior League in 1943 and 1951-1954. Retired as a player in 1959. A member of the U.S. national team at the World Cup in Brazil in 1950. Was named president of the West Penn Soccer Association in 1971, and served in that capacity for several years.
