Enzo DeLuca

Born: February 17, 1920 - Patti Messina, Italy

n 1949, he organized the Jersey City soccer team and the Jersey City parks team and participated in the New Jersey State League Championships as a player and manager and acted as a New Jersey referee. A member of the New Jersey State Soccer Association and a delegate to the USSFA conventions in Baltimore, Detroit and New York. DeLuca was instrumental in organizing the Italian American Soccer League of New York and helped form the Italian American Soccer League of New Jersey in 1959-60. He worked as a sports correspondent for Il Progresso, an Italian daily newspaper serving the metropolitan New York area, he also wrote a book, in Italian, titled "Soccer in the USA" which was published in 1962. For his contributions to the sport, the Italian government honored him with the title "Cavaliere dell'Ordine al Merito della Republica".
