Manager of the Philadelphia Americans when they
captured the National Challenge Cup in 1936, National Amateur
Cup in 1933 and 1934, American League pennant in 1935, 1943,
1944, 1947 and 1948, and the Lewis Cup in 1941 and 1943. President of the USFA in 1933 and 1934 after serving as
vice president from 1927. President of the American League from 1939 to 1942. Represented the USFA at the first World Cup in
Montevideo in 1930, managed the U.S. World Cup team in Italy
in 1934, the Olympic team in Amsterdam in 1928 and in Berlin
in 1936, and the national team in Mexico in 1937. He received an award from the Hungarian Football
Federation in 1931, for services to international affairs, and
from the German government in 1937 for aid in making American
participation in the 1936 Olympics possible. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in
1920.
