Paul Avis

Avis started officiating in 1962. He was a Referee and Linesman at the Canada Summer Games in Nova Scotia in 1969, and then again in 1977 in Newfoundland. Avis was appointed National Referee in 1970. Paul was appointed FIFA List of International Referees in 1972, and was a linesman at a World Cup preliminary round in Guatemala in '73. Also in 1973, he was a referee/linesman at the CONCACAF Under 19 competition in Mexico. Avis continued his officiating in the North American Soccer League from 1971 until 1982. He officiated two NASL Soccer Bowls in 1974 and 1980. Avis instructed other NASL officials in 1971 and 1982. He also officiated the CSA National Cup Final in 1975 and 1978. He was later appointed CSA Honorary National Referee in 1983. As an Instructor and an Assessor Paul was appointed CSA National Referee Instructor in 1969 and then he was appointed CSA Supervising Referee Instructor and National Referee Assessor the following year. Avis instructed at a CONCACAF National Referee Instructor's Course in 1974 and then at a National Officiating Conference in Ottawa in '78. In 1981, Paul was appointed honorary USSF National Referee Instructor. He also instructed at International Course for Referee Instructors for Referee Instructors and Referees in 1988. At the 1985 Canada Summer Games he was the referee assessor. Paul currently is the Supervisor of Referee Training Programs for the Ontario Soccer Association. He also has been involved with the design and delivery of CSA revised referee training program. To date Paul has held every position on the Executive of the Ontario Soccer Referees' Association. He is also a current member of the CSA Referees' Committee.
