Eddie Pearson Award - 1980

Don was the Co-founder of the Hunter Soccer Club in 1962 and was its President or Vice President for 21 years.  He was President of the Inter-County Soccer League for 2 years. This is the largest youth and amateur league in Eastern Pennsylvania.  He served on the Executive Committee of the Inter-County Soccer League at the council of the Eastern Pennsylvania  Soccer Association for 8 years.  In addition, he served as General Secretary of the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association for six years. He was a referee in The North American Soccer League for eleven years.  He was awarded "The Outstanding Service to Refereeing Award" by the NASL. Don Philipson, Chairman of the National Referee Committee, appointed him Regional Referee Instructor Region 2. He became a staff instructor and assessor for the North American Soccer League and staff instructor for the Federation National Referee Camps until 1995. He was Director of Assessment and Staff Instructor for the American Soccer League and authored many of the lessons used in instructing referees, referee instructors and referee assessors at all levels. He assisted the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association in the development of both their instructor and assessor programs. As National Director of Referee Administration he computerized the referee program and developed the referee registration form. He increased referee registrations from 2,500 to 32,000.  While Director, he served on the National Referee Committee and authored the first Referee Administrator's Handbook. He established the first liability insurance policy to protect referees.
